Baldwin Community Schools participates in the following School Nutrition Programs:
School Breakfast Program - USDA - Free Breakfast for all students.
The School Breakfast Program is a federally assisted meal program for school districts. Studies show that eating a healthy breakfast has a positive impact on a student's academic success. Each meal must provide ΒΌ of the Recommended Dietary Allowance for protein, iron, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and calories.
Community Eligibility Option (CEO) - Free Lunch for all students.
Community eligibility is an opportunity for schools with high percentages of low-income children to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students. It increases participation in the school meal programs allowing for a healthier student body.
Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) - USDA - Free fruit or vegetable snack daily for elementary students.
The Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service administers the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP). The FFVP provides a nutritional snack choice to encourage students to develop healthy eating habits. The Program has been successful in introducing school children to a variety of produce that they otherwise might not have the opportunity to sample.
Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) - Free Supper & Snack for after school programs.
Under the National School Lunch Program, snacks can be served to children after the regular school day ends as part of an organized, structured, supervised and approved after-school program. These snacks give children a nutritional boost and encourage them to join safe, supervised, and educational activities.
