Baldwin production of ‘The Audition’ mirrors high school theater experience
Latest Baldwin Drama Club production demonstrates district’s commitment to fine arts in a well-rounded education
BALDWIN, Mich. — The cast of the Baldwin Junior-Senior High School Drama Club production of “The Audition,” for all intents and purposes, played themselves during the show’s two-night run in April.
“The Audition” tells the story of a group of students who experience the nervousness, anxiety and angst involved in trying out for a high school production, in this case the Broadway smash “A Chorus Line.”
“I couldn’t be prouder of our entire cast and crew for exhibiting the hard work, weeks of preparation and commitment it takes to put on a successful stage show,” said Peter Graham, Baldwin Junior-Senior High School drama advisor. “The show pushed some of our students outside their comfort zone, in some cases allowing them to experience singing, dancing and acting for the first time. There were more than a few scenes some of our students could relate to, and that made our show authentic.”
“The Audition” was performed April 20-21 at the high school auditorium. All proceeds went back into the Drama Club, which puts on stage productions every school year.
“I would like to congratulate the entire cast and crew of ‘The Audition’ for taking risks and experiencing the rewards of a successful musical production,” said David Forrester, Baldwin Community Schools superintendent. “The Drama Club production highlights the critical role theater, music and other fine arts play in a well-rounded education that prepares our Panthers for success.”
