Baldwin Community Schools to expand free preschool program for 2023-2024 school year
Program to add second classroom to prepare Panthers for success in kindergarten, beyond
BALDWIN, Mich. — Baldwin Community Schools will expand its free preschool program for the 2023-2024 school year by adding a second classroom. The program expansion will allow the district to best meet the needs of its youngest students as they prepare to enter kindergarten.
“We have had amazing results with our free preschool program since launching it last school year and are excited to offer a second classroom,” said David Forrester, Superintendent of Baldwin Community Schools. “At Baldwin Community Schools, we are committed to meeting students where they are developmentally, and that starts with equipping our youngest learners with the skills to succeed in kindergarten and beyond.”
The no cost, full-day preschool program is available to families of children ages 3 and 4. Should the demand for the program exceed capacity, four year olds will be enrolled first. Research shows providing early childhood programs before children turn age 5 results in significant medium- and long-term benefits for students. Early childhood programs have proven to better prepare students to achieve academically in later grades.
“Our free preschool program is an investment in the future of our students made from the ground level,” said Diane Van Antwerp, Elementary Principal at Baldwin Community Schools. “We encourage all our families with students ages 3 or 4 to enroll today.”
Parents can enroll their children in the preschool program until Aug. 1. For information, please visit the Elementary office or call (231) 745-3261.
